MB&F’s Legacy Machine 101 receives platinum treatment

SIHH 2016 is just a few days away, and independent watchmaker MB&F has already begun to whet our appetite with its newest Legacy Machine. This new limited edition Legacy Machine 101 (LM 101)  is offered with a platinum case and a delicious blue dial.

MB&F's most traditional watch has just been updated and if gold isn't the metal for you, this should be right up your alley.

If you’ve been following our site over the last couple of years or you’re an ardent follower of MB&F, you already know that this LM 101 isn’t an entirely new watch. The Legacy Machine 101 was originally released in 2014 (read our original story here), and was designed to be the most traditional, wearable and cost effective MB&F timepiece ever.

Offered with a 40mm case in either red- or white-gold, the LM 101 exposed MB&F to more traditional watch buyers and collectors. And, while the Legacy Machine 101 wasn’t the first MB&F timepiece to feature a round case (that honor falls to the Legacy Machine One), it was the first timepiece to offer an MB&F in-house designed and developed movement. The brand even enlisted the help of Kari Voutilainen to oversee the elaborate and high-quality finishing of the movement.

We're of the opinion that you can't make a bad choice with the Legacy Machine 101. Each reference looks great.

The brand then made the timepiece even more classical in the first half of 2015, with the limited edition rose- and yellow-gold Legacy Machine 101 Frost (read our story here). These limited edition watches were differentiated from their older counterparts with stunning frost-finished dials.

Like the Frost watches, the Legacy Machine 101 that we are discussing today is an update. This time around you get a platinum case, black leather strap and, as has been the case with other platinum-case Legacy Machines, you get an incredible blue dial. Just above that dial sit the time and power reserve dials, and the mesmerising, oversized floating balance-wheel that makes all of the brand’s Legacy Machines a treat for the eyes.

The Legacy Machine 101 platinum is limited to just 33 pieces, and is expected to carry a retail price of approximately US $72,000. Look for it and other new MB&F creations at SIHH 2016 – we’ve been told the platinum LM 101 is just the “amuse-bouche”.
