Louis Moinet unveils ‘UAE Falcon’ piece unique set to mark UAE’s 45th National Day

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) celebrates its 45th National Day on December 2, and to mark that auspicious occasion Louis Moinet has unveiled a piece unique set. The ‘UAE Falcon’ consists of a Unique Piece Tourbillon, and a handmade desk from Swiss mechanical music box maker Reuge.

The emblem of the United Arab Emirates was officially adopted in 1973 and modified in 2008. The current emblem features on Louis Moinet's piece unique timepiece.

The emblem of the UAE, a falcon with a disk in the middle bearing the country’s flag and seven stars to represent the seven Emirates, features prominently on the dial. The emblem is made from platinum and sits above a tourbillon aperture (at six o’clock), and both dial flourishes are framed by the four colors, in lacquer, of the UAE’s flag – black, white, green and red.

The UAE Falcon timepiece boasts a 47mm platinum case, and is powered by the hand-wound calibre LM-14, which beats at 21,600vph. The movement, when fully wound, offers three days of power reserve. The calibre was designed and produced in collaboration with movement maker Concepto.

The Concepto reference number for the calibre is 8009, which means the UAE Falcon is powered by the same movement that placed first in the tourbillon category in the 2015 edition of the Chronometry Competition. This prestigious event is held by the Concours International de Chronometrie.

The second part of the piece unique set is a handmade desk from Reuge, it is finished in piano lacquer, and serves as a sort of watchbox for the timepiece. The map of the UAE is engraved in traditional style on the upper-lid of the desk but of course there’s more to it than just that.

There’s a custom-built Reuge mechanical music machine that boasts 72 fine-tuned notes, and since the number seven is significant to the UAE, you also get seven music cylinders. One plays the UAE’s National Anthem, five play classical melodies, and one can be customised to play a tune chosen by the owner. The melodies are based on the seven-note diatonic scale, which has been extensively used in music for decades.

There’s also a selection of seven watch strap (one for each day of the week), and each has the name of one of the Emirates embossed on it. The desk also accommodates watch tools, the timepiece’s certificate and warranty, in addition to Louis Moinet gloves.

The UAE Falcon set retails at US $375,000 and can be ordered through Damas Jewellery, Louis Moinet’s retail partner in the UAE. The set will then be hand-delivered by Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO of Louis Moinet.
