A little about Stepan Sarpaneva and his brands

Earlier this year, I was fortunate to meet with an independent watchmaker that I’ve watched with interest for a couple of years – Finland’s Stepan Sarpaneva. Sarpaneva set-up both Sarpaneva Watches and S.U.F Helsinki back in 2003 but before we get into his brands, lets talk about the man and his impressive career.

Stepan Sarpaneva was in Dubai for a brief visit earlier in the year.

H. Moser & Cie. and Christie’s to auction a unique watch each year in support of Swiss watchmaking

Maverick independent watchmaker H. Moser & Cie. and auction house Christie’s are partnering to support the Swiss watchmaking industry. Through the partnership H. Moser & Cie. will supply Christie’s with a unique watch for auction each year, with the proceeds going to the Fondation pour la Culture Horlogère Suisse (Foundation for Swiss Watchmaking Culture).

H. Moser & Cie. did not want to use a precious metal case for this piece unique, as the use of materials from overseas would make the watch less Swiss Made.

Pre-Basel: Tag Heuer announces 43mm Carrera Heuer-01

Tag Heuer announced its original 45mm Carrera Heuer-01 sports chronograph at Baselworld 2015, it was the first watch the brand released under the watchful eye of Jean-Claude Biver (our story here). Two years on Tag Heuer has announced a new Carrera Heuer-01, this time with a smaller 43mm case.

We reckon Tag Heuer has widened the Heuer-01’s appeal with this new case size.

Watch-Spotting: The watches of John Wick

We’re massive fans of 2014’s John Wick, which stars Keanu Reeves as the titular assassin. The action thriller was a hugely enjoyable film, and with John Wick: Chapter 2 playing in cinemas, we decided to re-watch the original before checking out the sequel. We also ceased the opportunity to do a bit of watch-spotting…

Wick wears his watch face down.
