Introducing the Speake-Marin Dong Son Tourbillon

The ancient Dong Son people of Vietnam and more specifically, their bronze drums, served as the inspiration for Speake-Marin’s newest unique piece, the Dong Son Tourbillon. The Dong Son drums were bronze drums created by Dong Son culture that existed around the Red River Delta of northern Vietnam between 600BC and 300AD. The drums were said to represent an artistic level that very few cultures of the time could match, and the independent watchmaker is paying tribute to this ancient culture with a unique creation of its own.

The Dong Son Tourbillon features a 38mm Piccadilly red gold case and is presented on an alligator strap with a red gold pin buckle.

Moritz Grossmann champions high-end German watchmaking at Dubai Watch Week

If you were to ask an informed watch enthusiast to list high-end German brands, the name Moritz Grossmann is unlikely to come up. Instead, you’d get a list of the ‘usual-suspects’ but we reckon this will change in the near future, thanks to the efforts of Christine Hutter, Founder and CEO of the reborn Moritz Grossmann.

MB&F’s HM6 Space Pirate gets a gold makeover

When MB&F released its Horological Machine 6 Space Pirate back in 2014, it caused quite a stir. To some (like us), it was a staggering display of mechanical mastery and to others, it was an oddball that they didn’t understand. Recently however, fresh validation for the HM6 came from the Red Dot Design Awards, where MB&F walked away with a big win. The validation prompted a celebration, and thus the HM6 Space Pirate RT was unleashed with a rose-gold case.

If you love the original HM6 Space Pirate but titanium is a little too plain for you, there's a new rose-gold option on the table.

Ulysse Nardin’s BaselWorld 2015 Novelties

Over the course of its history, Ulysse Nardin has produced many bold, unique and innovative timepieces. The company has long been associated with pocket watches and marine chronometers, the latter of which were rumored to be used by more than 50 of the world’s navies during the 19th century.

The Le Locle-based brand has constantly made its mark on the world of horology and, today, produces everything from time only watches to stunning examples of haute horology. We had heard several rumors about Ulysse Nardin’s new for 2015 timepieces, and we’re happy to report that the company more than met our expectations at BaselWorld 2015.

Visiting with A. Lange & Söhne at The Dubai Mall

Nearly a month ago, on October 24, A. Lange & Söhne celebrated the 20th birthday of the Lange 1. The Saxon watchmaker paid tribute to the watch family by introducing some extraordinary limited edition timepieces such as the Lange 1 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst (read our story about this watch by clicking here) and the Lange 1 “20th Anniversary” sets (read about these sets by clicking here).

Since they were introduced Lange has been taking these watches – along with some of their other 2014 novelties – on a world tour. On November 16th those very watches were in Dubai for a special event at the company’s flagship boutique in The Dubai Mall. Ahead of the event A. Lange & Söhne very graciously granted us early access to the watches for some wrist (and drooling) time.
