The A. Lange & Söhne Handwerkskunst watches

‘Handwerkskunst’ is the German word for artisanship, and A. Lange & Söhne first introduced watches with this distinction back in 2011. Handwerkskunst watches have dials and movements that are finished with rare and complicated engraving techniques, and are some of the Saxon watchmaker’s most desirable timepieces.

Ever since its rebirth, Lange has taken the watch world by storm. Pictured here is the brand's new manufactory.

The Top 5 Watches of SIHH 2015 (Part 1)

Each year the Salon International De La Haute Horologerie (SIHH for short) takes place in Geneva, and gives those lucky enough to be invited a preview of watches to come during the year (and beyond). This year the exhibition ran from January 19 to 23 and celebrated ’25 years of magic’.

The first show took place back in 1992 and featured a mere five brands. The show was born out of a desire for brands to be able to show their forthcoming products ahead of BaselWorld, which is the original Swiss watchmaking exhibition. SIHH is primarily organised by The Richemont Group, though the group does also work with several independent brands.

A. Lange & Söhne’s makes some of the finest watches in the world and as part of the Richemont Group, the brand participates at the annual Salon International De La Haute Horologerie (SIHH) that takes place in Geneva.

This year, Lange has seven new models; the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater (read our detailed story here), a Lange 1 with a new calibre, three new Saxonia models, and new variants of the Datograph Up/Down and Datograph Perpetual.

A. Lange & Söhne introduces the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater

If you ask us which high-end brand can single-handedly make the best Swiss brands sweat, we’d shout back A. Lange & Söhne. The German manufacture makes some of the most desirable watches on the planet, and has now unveiled a timepiece that combines a mechanical jumping numerals display with a decimal minute repeater. To the best of our knowledge this is the only watch of this type, and it’s called the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater.
